Q: Ultrasound today doesn't match dates??

Hello firstly I apologise for not knowing the ins and out of this website - this is my first time on here!
I am looking for some advice if possible:

Background: I already have gorgeous twin boys who are 6 years old xx

I found out I was pregnant on 23rd December with a clear blue test that has the conception indicator which said 1 - 2 weeks - so 3 - 4 wks gestation.
I think my LMP was around 20th Nov.
So I had an early US today... 3rd Jan (routine for my Dr) thinking I was around 6 wks gestation
The ultrasound showed a thick endometrial lining and a small gestational (empty) sac. The measurement made was 4 weeks 3 days gestation.
I am also experiencing some light bleeding (this also happened in 1st pregnancy)
The Dr said either my dates are wrong or I will miscarry :(
I am worried and confused...
Can you get a + HPT that early??? According to the scan today it would have been 6 days after conception?
Or am I clinging to false hope?
Thank you for any advice x

I wonder if it could be twins (again) which might explain the early positive HPT. I got a positive at 3 weeks 4 days, so it's possible even with a single baby pregnancy! It is so hard to get really accurate readings via ultrasound when it's so early on! I hope things progress well and you have a healthy pregnancy!

I got a bfp at 3w 4days and had an early u/s at 5 weeks and all they saw was a tiny empty sac two weeks later on another u/s they found the heart beat! Horrible two week wait ( I was bleeding the whole time so I was sure I was going to m/c- I bled up until 9 weeks) i would not give up hope just yet! have u had blood tests done on hcg levels? good luck keep us posted! @ my last appointment I've measured 2 weeks behind to, but my Doctor didn't seem to concerned and here I am 12w3d and still have my baby growing inside. @ that stage it is unlikely to see anything on u/s. Also with my 1st pregnancy I implanted @ 6weeks , I knew that because I had light bleeding. Stay positive and I know it will be hard but just wait. Your in my prayers. God Bless.

Thank you ladies for your comments and advice! klmruthie - no symptoms of MC apart from light bleeding which has been for 2 days - no cramps or anything. Normal preg symptoms! I am back for another ultrasound on 14th if I havn't MC before then. Hate the waiting game!!!

Are you having any symptoms?
If your dates are accurate, it would be impossible to get a bfp so early. Usually, the dates the dr. gives can vary from your own by 3-4 days in either direction. Two weeks is a huge gap and if the dr. thinks you just conceived (being 4+ weeks) then your bfp would have come when the sperm and egg had barely joined. Either your bean has taken it's sweet time to implant or you're in the early stages of a miscarriage. Are you going back for another U/S?

Hi at your stage if your only 4 weeks odd you won't see anything in a scan Thst is completely normal not to see anything I was scanned at 5wk 5 days n didn't see anything and it's way way to early to tell if it's a blighted ovum or not good luck x

I think it's likely you will miscarry unfortunately. Sound's like blighted ovum to me? Not sure though.

I went in at 9w5d only to find my baby was 6w3d and no heartbeat. I miscarried when I was supposed to be 12weeks along. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you're able to conceive again quickly. It's an awful experience, if you need anyone to talk to let me know. :(
