Q: Anyone experts at the beta levels? Mine growing slowly and I'm told to prepare for miscarriage..

So my LMP was Dec4th and according to a fertility monitor I ovulated Dec20/21.. On Jan3 my levels were 71, Jan16th they were 2399, Jan20 they were 3185 and Jan23 they were 6135. My doctor was happy with the first two levels, but Jan20th I was told to prepare for a miscarriage - they even told me to call my work and schedule time off. I have a very close friend who had the numbers slowly increase at one point, only to start doubling after and for her, it was just the sac growing and nothing was inside it ending in a D&C. I had an ultrasound Jan20 and they saw the sac but nothing else, and according to my numbers I was 6weeks. With these numbers, is there any hope? A girl I know has numbers and an ultrasound like mine at 8 weeks, and her doctors believe it's viable? Why would doctors be so opposite?

Dont stress too much. After my mc my level went from 1200 to 600 in less than 24 hours. I am only around 5 weeks according to my calculations and my HCg is almost the same as yours I had an ultrasound and there was a sac but nothing inside but it could still be too early. Think positivly good luck xxx

I say DON'T GIVE UP on your little bean. I was told not to get my hopes up at my first appt, and although I have remained catiously optimistic, I WILL NOT give up until it happens on it's own.

I used a good website that has a chart on it and it states that...
There is quite a range in what is considered a normal hCG level. In about 85 percent of pregnancies hCG levels will double every two to three days. Your doctor may check your beta hCG level more than once to see if it is rising appropriately

6 weeks LMP 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml

Those are the normal level ranges for that point in pregnancy. I dont know if they measured the mIU or the ml. but for the mIU, yours seem to be ok. Best of luck! I had a blighted ovum back in July/ August and at my 8 week ultrasound it showed nothing at all...not even a yolk sac. I only showed a big empty amniotic sac. I didnt miscarry until 9 weeks though and at 8 weeks my hcg levels were showing alot lower than what you are showing at 6 weeks. I hope that helps.

I have heard it both both ways sometimes hcg can be slow to rise and the baby is fine ! in my case my levels with my first were only 3,000 at 7 weeks I was told there was no hope and was transfered to a specialist who showed me my babies heartbeat at 8 weeks 5 days and said there was hope because the babe had a strong heartbeat, sadly at my 11 week ck the baby had passed :(
there is a site called the misdiagnosed miscarriage that has hopeful stories

I pray yours turns out a happy one, Good luck

Thank you Babbosbabymama.. I'm trying to be positive but with doctors telling me to prepare for it, and having my friend go through the same thing.. AND I was just googling and I noticed the term Blighted Ovum, which seems to be what my friend and I 'have'.. well, it's just so darn hard to be positive for fear of feeling that broken heart all over again. My next ultrasound is Thursday and they say I'll know then.. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers :)

Just try not to worry. I know its scary but your numbers are increasing!! I have had miscarriages and they all decreased fairly rapidly. Thats a good sign since they are going up!! And it seems like they almost doubled in the last 2 blood tests you had and thats what they are supposed to do. If you didnt see anything at 6 weeks dont worry about that either. if your hormones are growing slowly then so is your baby and they all grow at their own pace. I saw NOTHING at my 5 week scan and a week later saw a sack, yolk sack and tiny fetal pole.

Every pregnancy, woman and baby is different so the doctors might have different things to say to different people. Last time I miscarried, I was bleeding and the baby was measuring small and I asked my doctor if I was going to miscarry and he said no and I did.. Point being, they arent always right. Just stay positive. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst but always keep yor head up!! Good luck!! My prayers are with u <3
