Q: How much do you exercise while pregnant?

I have no plans to stop going to the gym, but I'm wondering if any of you ladies alter your exercise plan or the kinds of exercises you do while pregnant. My sister-in-law actually had to stop going as much because of the nausea and soreness.

What works/is best for you?

My doctor told me to do whatever is comfortable, but walking and swimming and yoga are best. I am a zumba instructor and I usually do that about 1-2 times per week but I take it down A LOT because I am tired, sore and not as agile. She told me to try not to do the elliptical much after 20 weeks and to just listen to your body. I am just about 11 weeks but I definitely just do not feel as comfortable or have as much energy as I used to.

That question is probably best directed at your doctor or midwife since everyone is different. I don't "exercise" per se. but I do a lot of very brisk walking while at work 3 days a week. You really should talk to your doctor about what's safe(lifting limits, etc...) because it's my understanding that while pregnant you have to lighten your load at least a little bit. Unless you're high risk, I don't think anyone would tell you you have to stop but you should talk to someone about what's safe, congratulations!

I used the elliptical 3 to 4 days a week for 30 mins at pace were I could still talk until 27 weeks and then my pelvis started doing funky things so I switched to prenatal yoga 30 mins 5 days a week plus I chase my 2 yr old all over every day. I always make sure not to push myself too hard so my heart rate doesnt get too high and if I am especially tired or hurting that day I take it easy; I either do really light stretching or no exercise at all.
