I have not had a cerclage...yet, but I am scheduled to have one at the end of my 1st trimester (fingers crossed we get there) which is in 6 weeks. This is my 2nd pregnancy, and I went into preterm labor with my 1st at 26 weeks for unknown reasons. My OBGYN has recommended the cerclage for me for it's benefits. I've done lots of research, and if it is performed before 24 weeks, you have a 80-90% chance of delivering a full-term baby. Usually a cerclage is removed around the 37th week mark, but it is possible for you to go into labor beforehand. If you do, and they cannot prevent the labor, you will have the cerclage removed or have a c-section, depending on the circumstances. I have heard horror stories of the cerclage ripping due to not getting it removed in time, but these stories are far and few between. As for bed rest, my OBGYN said there is no proof it will help, and it would be my call to go on bed rest. I do know recovery can take a week or two. Good luck!!!
