I had a cerclage put in at 19 weeks (I am now 27 weeks). I was put on hospital bed rest because I am having twins and my cervix was extremely short when they caught the issue. They will give you an epidural which does not hurt...it just feels weird when they start injecting the drugs. I felt some tugging during the procedure but no pain since the drugs worked well. The procedure was only about 30 minutes total not including the prep and epidural. There was a lot of pain after the drugs wore off. It basically felt like really, really bad period cramps but they gave me Tylenol w/ Codeine which helped. I was bleeding for the next couple of days which was normal and it got lighter until it went away. Now I don't even feel it and they plan on taking it out when I have my c-section.
If you are interested, I have a blog about my bed rest experience: http://broadwaybabies.wordpress.com/
