Q: High hCG levels but no pregnancy seen?

Has anyone experienced this? I got my BFP at 7DPO. On a digital it said Pregnant 2-3. So I assumed I was further along than I seemed. Well had a scan tomorrow which showed no sign of pregnancy, although my right ovary is enlarged and there is a corpus luteum. My hCG levels are through the roof though;

10DPO - 1204
12DPO - 1889
13DPO - 3780

I have to go back tomorrow for more bloods but they're saying at the moment they're classing it as pregnancy on unknown location and keep talking about surgery and ectopics. My personal feeling is that I'm only 4 weeks pregnant and that's why they can't see anything.

Has anyone had such high hCG levels this early and how did it turn out for you?

Thank you girls. Went back today and my hCG has risen to 5116 at 15DPO. Had a rescan and again nothing seen, but they did spot what they said looked like "clots" in my uterus. I opted to wait a week and be rescanned then to see if we can see more then!

I would agree that it is way too early to see something. I was followed very closely at the beginning of my pregnancy because of my m/c history and my first ultrasound was just shy of 5 weeks and there was only the tiniest of gestational sacs to be seen. The tech commented that she wasn't even sure they'd be able to see ANYTHING before she started since I was so early on. I've also heard your HCG needs to be higher than 10,000 before anything shows on ultrasound. At 6 weeks we were able to see the "baby" -- aka a popyseed that flickered for a heartbeat. Hopefully you'll go back and will be far enough along to see something. :)

I agree that it is probably too early for them to see anything. If you found out at 7DPO you would have been around 3 weeks pregnant at that point. Some women have higher HCG levels, it doesn't really help to compare them to other women or to the averages, it is more important that they are doubling. A couple of days can make a big difference when you are that early on, I have heard of women going in before 5 weeks and only seeing a gestational sac only to go back within a day or two to see a heartbeat.

I know it seems near impossible not to worry, but I think the only thing you can do is wait and see. I wouldn't be surprised if you go back at a later point and the heart is beating away. :)

They don't generally see anything on ultrasound anyway til HCG is 10,000. I think you're right, just not far enough along yet. I never had blood drawn that early but at 6 weeks it was over 60,000 and they said it was about double what they were expecting. Pregnancy was fine and I now have a healthy little girl =)
