Q: Gender ultrasound!

We are having our gender ultrasound next Friday. We will be 19w2d at our appt. what is the likelihood our baby will cooperate and we will be able to determine the gender? I'm nervous because my mom is flying up to go with us and I want to find out while she is here!

likelihood is great :) we got an educated guess at 19wks (baby wouldn't move despite all tactics to make her move) and we got a confirmation at 22wks :) try drinking something sugary right before you go into the ultrasound room. orange juice, apple juice and any dark pop/soda (like coke or root beer) it might help get your babe moving around so he or she will show you his/her gender bits!

Likelihood is pretty high for most part, unless you have an uncooperative baby like cosmoholic said.

I must be unlucky because both of my babies were uncooperative at ~19-20 weeks. My first was basically 'sleeping' in a bad position and the tech couldn't see anything - we ended up finding out at another ultrasound about 6 weeks later (the wait was torture!). This time, I just had my ultrasound at 19 weeks and the tech said the baby was 'too active' making it hard for her to see anything! We aren't sure what we will do this time - I had to basically beg my doctor last time for the ultrasound at 26weeks b/c there wasn't a need otherwise. We may try to wait it out this time or go for an elective 3D scan.

I hope you have better luck than me!!

Our ultrasound was at 18w3d and the tech had no issues determining the sex of our baby (we were told it's a girl). We had another one at 20w3d and another tech also said we were having a girl. So as long as your baby cooperates, you should be able to find out the sex.

Unfortunately not all babies are cooperative... some of them will have their legs crossed and not show the goods. There's no way to predict which ones will cooperate and which ones won't. I can say that in my group of friends the vast majority of babies did cooperate (including myself there are 7 pregnancies in our circle of friends this year and all babies but one cooperated at the ultrasound).

Good luck and I hope (s)he cooperates!
