Q: spotting and cervical polyps. anyone have this?

im 12 weeks and 1 day and this morning after a BM I had some bleeding. at first is was red but after one wipe it was orangish then a few more wipes and it was gone. no cramps. I have a cervical polyp and I know that its possible for that to cause bleeding. but I haven't had intercourse in the last 3 days. and I thought it would have to be irritated to cause bleeding. anyone have any experience with this?

I do not have polyps but I had spotting and heavy bleeding every time I had a BM during my first trimester. So it doesn't take much to irritate the cervix when pregnant. There is a lot more blood flowing down there and for some women, just a little bit of pressure is enough to break the little blood vessels and cause bleeding.

My bleeding after a BM was actually heavy enough that it was like a medium menstrual flow. I had to wear a pad for a bit sometimes. It would always come out bright red and then turn to pink and then brown spotting over the next 12ish hours. It was confirmed that it was coming from my cervix by an internal exam. The OB said that my cervix was covered with small scabs from previous bleeds.

I think that you shouldn't have to worry, the cervix can bleed normally during pregnancy, and if you add in a polyp I would think the chances of spotting are even higher. Although, I would also say that there is no harm in calling your OB/midwife to let them know. :)
