Q: CPCS found at 20 week ultrasound

I was just told that they found a few choroid plexus cysts at my 20 week ultrasound. They said it can be an indicator of down syndrome. I have to schedule a level two ultrasound but the referral takes a few days to go through, so I am over here worried sick not knowing. They said there were no other indicators, but my question is, have any of you been told the same thing and everything ended up okay? I mean, if my baby has downs, that's not going to affect anything at all, I just want to know, that's all. I would like to hear some other ladies stories on the outcome.

Thank you for a little comfort! Luckily they are able to get me in to a level 2 ultrasound on Thursday,, so just one more day of waiting!

They will just keep an eye on it (more ultrasounds YAY!) If all of your blood scans come back as normal, try to breathe a sigh of relief! Prayers for you and Baby!!

I'm sorry no one has been able to calm your fears. As I did some research on the topic, these are some of the facts I found:
They generally disappear by 26-28 weeks in utero and are of no significance in most cases 1-2. However if one is seen in antenatal imaging it would warrant careful surveillance of the rest of the fetus due to weak associations with karyotypic abnormalities. Choroid plexus cysts are of concern if the cysts are large (> 1 cm) (controversial evidence), bilateral, multiple and associated with structural abnormalities, when the maternal age is equal to or greater than 32 years, or if the maternal serum screening results are abnormal.
Amniocentesis is suggested when there are other abnormalities or when there is a high risk for trisomy 18.
The cysts themselves resolve in the 3rd trimester and are generally not associated with abnormal CNS development. It is usually the associated conditions that are of concern.
