The level II scan was this morning. I was extremely, extremely nervous! But we got the nicest technician; she'd read our file and she started directly by looking at the brain. She took a few measurements, and then said:
"the ventricles are normal." My boyfriend and I both let out a sigh of relief! Then of course I was still expecting her to find some other problem! For a few minutes I was convinced baby had no right arm! Toward the end of the scan, the tech started asking all kinds of question about prenatal screening, so I was getting very worried she was something wrong, but it turns out she just didn't have the results in our file and had to call the lab to get them.
After the scan we met with a doctor who simply announced that everything looked good, that our odds for Down's was 1 in 9000 (about) and that he saw no reason for us to be followed by the High Risk Team. He even said that he didn't think the MRI would pick up any problem with the brain, because in that case they would most probably see the problem with an ultrasound. We were thrilled! Baby was about a week behind for them, but right on target according to my BBT chart, so that's not worrying me, but the doctor is having us have a repeat ultrasound probably in three weeks to make sure baby is still developing normally, albeit a week behind. To me that's just a bonus ultrasound to make sure baby is indeed normal!
It still feels unreal. But we'll be announcing the pregnancy to our colleagues, friends and extended family this week and the next!
Oh. And according to the tech, it's a boy!
