10w appointment, and ultrasound numero dos!

Yesterday was an awesome day. The DH and I had our first official OB appointment!

We did the ultrasound first. Our tech is the same every time and she is so great - she takes the time to let us look and listen as much as we want. She found the bean and it's not quite a bean anymore! It looked like a real baby. ;) Bean is about 1 1/4 inches long and had a heart rate of 174 BPM. Little arms and legs and hands and feet, doing some fetus version of the running man in my belly! It was PRECIOUS. The bean was obviously uncomfortable and wiggling around all willy-nilly... but the DH is convinced it was waving to us. Lol. So. Stinking. Sweet. And then the real surprise came - she flipped a switch and showed us Bean in 4D! I sure didn't expect that this early on. Bean was hugging the umbilical cord with both hands, so we got to see an almost-full face, and little fingers. It reminded me a lot of DS at his 4D ultrasound, but he was much further along. I wonder if Bean will look like him at all. :)

At the first ultrasound I was measuring 7 days behind, and at this one I was measuring 6 days behind. So at least it's pretty consistent. They changed my due date to January 30th and tentatively scheduled a C-section for January 22nd.

We moved on then, and they took 7 vials of blood. It's more than normal, but didn't really bother me. As long as I don't look at the needle going in the first time I can handle it pretty well. I don't know what they were all for (up to this point it's only been Quant HCG and Progesterone testing), but I'm sure everything is fine. I weighed in about 2 1/2 pounds up - which is good for 10 weeks! I have 10 more weeks and they'd like me to gain no more than 7 1/2 pounds in that time. 10 pounds is the recommendation for the first half of my pregnancy at my height, and 20 pounds in the second half. I think we can manage that.

AND we met our OB for the very first time. I LOVE HIM. It's the first male OB I've had so I was a little nervous, but it was almost an instantaneous trust on my part. I'm so glad. According to him, I've got the "perfect" boobs and nipples for breastfeeding so he's optimistic that it won't be too difficult this go 'round. (Last time I made it about six weeks before I had to stop - it was SO PAINFUL.) I also have a "perfect" pelvis. I told him that with all of the use of this word "perfect", I should totally come in more often. Lol. My DH loved him, too, and so that's that.

GL to all! I hope everyone is H&H!

It was so cool mainly because I totally didn't expect it. :)) And I have no idea if they all do that - I remember my old OB doing really regular breast exams but I can't say I ever remember anything having to do with nipples. Lol, it was awkward for sure, but hey, good results. :)

Congrats on an awesome appointment. That is so cool you got to see your bean in 4D. I hope my RE or OB has that technology. I had no idea the OB will examine my boobs and nipples.. Do all OBs do that? Its nice to know thats a possibilty! I would have been very surprised :)

I hear you; we moved a little over a year ago and I had to leave my OB that had seen me since I was 15! It made me sad. Lol. Oh my, so are you going to have a double birthday?!

So glad everything is going good! My OB is male took and my regular doctor so it's nice to have someone familiar with me and my medical history in charge of everything. I'm due Jan 25th, same as the last one! lol

:D Yes! It's truly cool. When we had our 6/7 week ultrasound to confirm a heartbeat, he/she just looked like a little circle. And yay! I bet they do, if only to make sure all is well. :) I hear that the most common times for ultrasounds are at the very beginning, in the middle (to determine gender), and near the end. GOOD LUCK!
