Weight Gain - Holy Crap!!!

2/15/2014 - 10w1

I've always kept my weight in check. During my cycle I've had the hardest time keeping my diet in check. I can feel when the progesterone levels are rising b/c I want every processed & sweet treat I can get my hands on. So, naturally, I've always wondered how I would handle pregnancy. During the first 2 weeks I ate extremely healthy meals! I was shocked & surprised how easy it was! Then 6 weeks came along & morning sickness followed. Food aversions have been the biggest problem. Everything healthy is disgusting to me & makes me gag. I find myself eating things like pizza & a lot of microwave Stouffer's lasagna & hot pockets. I've watched the weight creep up. I was okay with gaining 5 pounds during the first trimester. At least I could lie to myself and contribute that to fluid retention. Ha! But today I have passed the 5 pound mark, and I am only 10 weeks along. I have 4 more weeks! Usually if I gain weight I step up my exercise or cut calories. I can't cut calories. So I have to focus on trying to make choices that are both healthy & tolerable. This is crazy! I don't want to have a huge baby & have health complications with the little one b/c I couldn't control what I put in my mouth. I plan on doing some pregnancy-friendly exercises.

Does anyone have any advice or encouragement?

Thanks for you're encouragement, ladies! It really does help to know I'm not the only one facing these issues.

Hey my first trimester I had already gained like 12 lbs so don't beat yourself up. This is my second boy and I was craving the pizza, etc just like with my first son. Usually some point in early second trimester it slows to the right pace for me and I can control myself a little better but it's tough and I do cheat a lot. I have a little over three weeks to go and I started at 116 at ovulation and now I'm like 150 ;) and that's with working out although I've toned it down a bit. The biggest thing which you mentioned is when you feel up to it make sure you get enough veggies and other healthy things to supply the nourishment baby needs. You'll be fine though. First child I gained over 70 lbs (whoops).

I'm struggling to eat anything other than starchy carbs, right now! Not exactly a balanced diet. I have found that I tolerate fresh fruit as long as it's crunchy (apple and pear slices, mostly) better than anything soft or mushy. As far as exercise goes, only do what makes you comfortable. If you're feeling really sick and tired, start with a walk around the block. I was at the gym 4 times a week until last week when I really started to get fatigued, so now I'm letting myself be okay with walking the dog (when it's warm enough) or something similar when I'm really not feeling well.
