Minor little episode

So my hubby and I have been researching and touring day cares and preschools in the area to get an idea of where we want to send our little one next year. Turns out I got way more than I bargained for yesterday while touring one of the nicer preschools in town. We started out looking at one of the preschool rooms, which happened to be empty since the kids were on a field trip - thank goodness! I was standing talking to the lady giving me the tour for about 10 minutes when I started to feel a bit warm. Not surprising, I was still wearing my winter coat and we were inside. We slowly moved around the room looking at the different stations, and I started to feel a bit on the woozy side. Thinking it was still just my coat I took it off. After another 5 minutes or so, I knew I needed to sit down. I felt bad interrupting her, but told her I needed to sit. She left to get me a bottle of water, but it was too late. I started to think I was going to throw up so I made my way over to the sink, since I didn't know where a bathroom was. She came back with a bottle of water, and by that time I'd broken into a cold sweat. She told me where to find the bathroom, but about halfway there I started blacking out so right there on the carpet in the middle of the preschool room I plopped down on the floor. I didn't fall or totally black out, just came to a rather abrupt stop and sat down right where I was. Black fuzzies in my eyes, sweating profusely and unsure of whether or not I was going to throw up, I was a sight. I felt so bad for doing that to this poor woman! I started feeling better after a few minutes and got to see the rest of the campus (yes, this preschool is a campus!) but had to frequently sit down to keep myself feeling alright.

I sent a message to my doctor, just to let her know. She gave me the "make sure you're staying hydrated, eating small, frequent meals, and not standing or sitting in one place for a long time" shpeal. I have heard that your blood pressure is lower earlier in pregnancy and it's not uncommon for pregnant women to feel faint or dizzy. Guess when you take someone with normally low blood pressure it makes it a little bit worse. I now know that standing for too long in one place is not good for me! The good news is I went on a long walk with the hubby today and did just fine - so it's really only an issue if I'm just standing not moving very much.

Lesson learned! :)

Definitely could have been blood sugar, but I didn't think so since I made sure to eat a small snack right before I went. Either way, it certainly teaches you to listen to your body!

Sounds like a blood sugar issue. I have had one episode exactly like that one so far this pregnancy and a granola bar is what fixed me up. Try carrying a snack with you in case it happens again or ask somebody for some juice. It's easier for our blood sugar to tank right now than we realize, especially after being active :)
