The following is an overview of her diet for the past 3 days. Review this information and determine if she is lacking any vital nutrients and vitamins. Make any recommendations for her if she should make changes. Mrs Bradley is a vegetarian.

1. What does Mrs Bradley need more of/less of?

-I would counsel the patient on the importance of whole grains. Most of her carbs are quick digesting, refined wheat which spikes the blood sugar (rice crackers, white bread bagel). She could put peanut butter on her crackers and banana, resulting in a well-balanced, nutrient-dense snack that would keep her full longer.
-She is receiving fiber through beans but I would suggest switching out her morning white bread bagel with whole wheat.
-She needs to increase her intake of proteins at every meal. Quinoa, soy, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, and milk are excellent forms of vegetarian proteins.
-She needs to incorporate more healthy fats including avocado, cheese, and nut butters.
-I would ask what kind of cereal she is eating. Oatmeal is a great alternative packed with fiber and low-glycemic carbohydrates.
-The patient is not receiving adequate amounts of micronutrients including calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, and folic acid. She should be taking a multivitamin for pregnant women which an appropriate amount of folic acid. She should be eating dark green, leafy vegetables for folic acid. She is eating legumes and drinking OJ which are also forms of folic acid and vitamin C. Incorporating milk products will give her more calcium. Increasing whole grains and consuming nut butters, the patient will receive more magnesium.
→ it is important to note that women in the first trimester do not need additional calories at this time
