Q: Likelihood of second child having food allergies?

If you have one child with food allergies, does anyone know what the chances are of a second child also having food allergies?

Our son has allergies to egg and peanut. I'm just wondering how common it is for the younger children to also have those (or other) allergies. My middle brother was allergic to peanuts as a child but grew out of it. My oldest brother and I did not have any allergies. We have no family history of egg allergies. Obviously we'll be better prepared to know what to look for next time but just wondering if anyone has experience with this?

The earlier you introduce ANY foods, the more likely the child will develop food allergies. So if you wait until after 6 months, preferably later, your child is much less likely to develop allergies...fwiw

I can't offer any scientific information regarding this, but I do know somebody whose first child has a very bad allergy to peanuts, and whose second child has no allergies at all. I do think her doctor put her on a special diet while she was pregnant to prevent allergies, but from what I've read there is no consensus in the medical community on the validity of that approach.
