I was breast feeding and got my period after about 2 months. Not fun :-/ And I had Mirena put in and have been bleeding for almost 8 weeks straight now.
I was told that after giving birth your cervix doesn't close all the way like it did prior to baby and that is why it is easier to get pregnant the second time around. You also want to wait a little to get your body back to "normal" and let the uterus heal and everything. A coworker got pregnant within a few months of having a baby and had major complications with the little girl, making her very premature and now she has a set of "irish" twins.

It was almost a year and a half after delivering my son that I got my period again. And, I only breastfed for 6 months. Nothing to worry about, totally normal.

I was bf also and didn't get my period until about 13 months when I was down to one feeding a day. Fell pregnant first cycle out. It is apparently easier the second time around your body knows what it is doing. I have also heard that it takes 1 to 11/2 years for your body to regain the nutrients etc hat it lost while pregnant with the first one.

My LO is the same age, and I haven't got my period yet either - and a lot of people I know are 7/8 months PP and still haven't. You might have to make the decision to either put of TTC or to stop breastfeeding in a few months; breastfeeding can act as a contraceptive, so you're much less likely to fall pregnant. Also, breastfeeding while pregnant will put a huge strain on your body, so it would be easier to stop first. It sounds like a difficult situation, and I can understand why you're keen to try for #2, but you might be better off waiting until LO is at least a year old...Either way, good luck :)

I didnt get my period until my lo was almost a year old! It then took me 9 more months to become pregnant again. breastfeeding made my cycles really irregular even though I was only nursing her once or twice a day.

I never got a period and then I got pregnant with baby #2 when my son was 7 months old and i was exclusively breastfeeding. You don't need to get your period to ovulate . It is normal for it not to return until after you finish breast feeding.
