I am planning on a natural birth but keeping an open mind incase something should happen that I need pain medicine. My advice would be to do you're research for both natural and with an epidural and really weigh the pros and cons of both And if you do go natural keep an open mind incase something were to happen and make sure to look up ways to help u deal with the pain. I am going to have a phrase I say over and over when it gets to the point where I feel like want to give up and try set small goals for myself like making it through 4 more contractions and then after those 4 set the same goal again.

Okay lets not blow up my question by being rude or snide to other members answers so far I have really liked every ones answer for the most part, and this was just for me to get others opinions. Not for others to be mean and pick apart what others say. This is just my first pregnancy and I wanted to see what others had to say about their experiences.
And I liked Brittany0915's answer I know that getting your tooth pulled is nothing compared to having a baby. But I liked her example of it. It made sense to me!
So I hope you all have a great day :) Thanks

theres no way i could have possibly went natural with my first born. everyone who hasnt givien birth yet, has no idea how painful it is. even when you think you know, you have no idea. that being said, i had an epidural with my first and second deliveries, and with my third i was ready to go natural. i was prepared, it was so amazing and worth the pain, but certainly not easy. there were times i almost lost consciousness during contractions due to the pain. but i got through it with no drug relief and it was the best choice for me at that time.

and i agree with the other ladies, if your in labor the last thing you will worry about is the pain of a needle. you likely wont even feel it if your in labor.

Of course i am not saying all doctors are money driven, but you can't say they are all perfect. I'm sure you're a wonderful doctor but that doesn't mean every woman shouldn't take the time to check out her doctor instead of just blindly assuming he or she is doing everything for the right reasons. I'm not sure if you're in the UK or Canada, but here in the states many things are driven by money, and because of that the best interests of people are not taken into consideration just what makes the most money. That is a fact.

Brittany so you are comparing a tooth to a baby?

This is my first pregnancy and hate needles too! I'm planning on doing natural birth, no episiotomy or meds. But I'm sure the needle pain is much much less than the labor pain.

dont feel like a bad person or a failure if you go with an epidural. after all, how many people even go to the dentist to get a tooth pulled without pain relief??? compare that to childbirth... dont be too hard on yourself.

There's no way in hell I'd everrrr use an epidural. Birth is supposed to be so natural and besides epidurals are very bad for the baby. I never used anything with my first baby, now i am pregnant with my second and I won't this time either. An elderly woman told me "You created your baby now don't punish the child with those drugs for the pain you created". I kind of liked it even though it sounded a bit harsh haha
