I've seen some women wear a sarong to cover a little more of their pelvic region of they're uncomfortable having it exposed during pregnancy. I plan to wear one for mine with either a bikini top or a sports bra.

hadn't considered the water birth until having a tour of the maternity unit yesterday. I'm not a great fan of being exposed in a bright room, so when they showed me the birthing pool room and it was dimmed lighting and twinkly ceiling lights and an ipod dock I was sold. only my partner and nurse will be in the room and possibly my mother if she makes it on time. i'm thinking a t-shirt would make me feel comfortable and it'd be easy enough to whip off when the baby has arrived. I haven't decided whether I am going to just use the pool for pain relief or actually give birth there, i guess i can judge that on the day ;) thanks ladies !!

I'm actually planning a waterbirth myself and really it's like the others have said, it's whatever you feel comfortable with. Some women wear a tshirt, some women go naked, and some wear a bikini top or comfortable bra....it's is entirely up to you. I will probably go naked or wear a comfortable sports bra (the nursing kind) but I will be doing a homebirth so not just anyone can walk in. :) I really think a waterbirth is a great choice :)

Its all about what you are comfortable with, I was ins birthing tub for part of my first labor and I ws naked, but I was only with my hubby with a nurse checking on me once in a while. You just have to go with what you are go with and dont forget about the logistics of the actual birthing, you don't want anything that might hinder or be awkward. Also if you are breastfeeding or doing immediate skin to skin with baby that is a consideration too. I highly recommend both :) good luck!

I guess part of the question is - who is going to be present? A friend of mine did a water birth and just wore a hospital gown until she was ready to climb into the pool and had underneath bikini/tankini top that provided a bit of support for her breasts but allowed free movement and wasn't too constricting for wearing in the pool. She had just her husband and birth attendant there and said she was very comfortable, but said she would've felt a bit 'naked' if she had had more of an audience - I guess that's a bit of a personal preference/comfort level determination. I hope that helps!
