Q: Is anyone considering or have already delayed clamping of the cord?

I lie the idea of delaying the clamping if the umbilical cord. Mainly because i have low iron and acute anemia and delaying the cutting of the cord the baby gets its full store of iron and blood cells. Is anyone else considering this or have already done this?

I'm all for it. I just have to be sooooo stern wiht our medical facility.. they are as hard headed as I am persistent. :) Husbands job....Let me squeeze the hell out of your hand, Rub my back..when I need..stop when I dont need, make sure the nurses are nice, dont let dr. take my placenta out manually..unless after 30 min danger zone(yes..had a dr. do this 5min after birth with my first...HORRIFIC), Dont let them cut the babies cord tell after pulsing, and finally..dont let the baby out of his site!

Thanks ladies. I was just doing some research on the internet and thought i would ask. I think its weird how it isn't common practice, I just hope that my wishes are met at the time. I am hoping for a water birth so i know that they won't be able to clamp and cut immediately anyway if I am in the water so hopefully it will all pan out.

I also have low iron and am anemic. I did it with my first, and I will be doing it again with this one is Sept.

I too am doing the delayed cord cutting. I am also iron deficient and anemic and want the baby to get all the blood that belongs to her. My OB agrees that it significantly reduces baby's chances of low iron as well as many other things. I dont understand why it isnt common practice..they have to wait for the placenta regardless :-s
Good luck!

Hi there, i did it with my daughter who is 4 and im due again in Sept and i'll be doing it again too. I agree its deffo the best for baby to allow the cord to stop pulsing after he/she is born. You should 100% do it hope this helps :)
