Q: Will I just know ???

How am I going to know when I am in labour? or when my waters have broke??? I am freaking out....

I am 31 weeks and even now i freak out thinking I am in labour, yet its braxton hicks.... I think my waters have broke, then realise its just immense amounts of discharge.....

How will I know when its real....or will i just know???

for the majority of women their water breaks mid labor or has to be broken by the doctor. With my first I paced and paced with contractions for about an hour before I gave in and went to the hospital, the beginnings of labor just felt like strong Braxton hicks contractions. But they were getting longer and longer in duration (about 45sec+) and closer together and starting to really hurt. I was only 2 cm dialated but in active labor. If you think you are in labor just call the l&d at the hospital they talk to you and ask you questions and let you know if they want you to come in and get checked. Always better to be safe than sorry :) you don't just know, and you don't want to have a false alarms and so on but your excited to have your baby :) I went in once with contractions and was sent home, but they had told me to come in. Your doctor usually gives you an instruction sheet and phone numbers, but sometimes you just have to go with instinct. Good luck momma

Thanks ladies, I'm not shy of going to the maternity ward if I think something is wrong, I feel like I'm there every few weeks thinking my ailments are something horrendous! lol !

When I went into labor w/ my son my water broke while I was using the restroom. I thought at 1st that I had a really full bladder lol but it wouldn't stop so I spent 20 minutes in the bathroom before finally yelling at my husband to come here. Didn't really have any labor pains till about an hour after my water broke. I started out w/ lower back pain & then slowly I ended up w/ both back and stomach contractions.
(Water broke @ 11 am after lunch & around 10 pm was prepped for c-section ,at 10:17pm my son was welcomed into the world while Journey-wheel in the sky played :)
You may have a blond moment at first like I did, but you'll catch on real quick when it's the real thing. Also remember better safe than sorry, if you think your in labor then get checked asap. A friend of mine w/ her youngest was just feeling weird, not painful weird just uncomfortable & after a couple hours of it not going away went ahead to go get checked & was dialed to 7 or 8 and had her DD ab

with my 1st, nearly 14 yrs ago I didn't know! I had severe back ache at a friends on the Saturday night, went home, went in the bath and fell asleep till 3am. Got out and went to sleep on the sofa. woke up at 7am, stood up, trickle of water ran down my leg. I initially thought I had wet myself, but each step I took more trickled. Once that happened the backache stopped. (It was really contractions, but I didn't know because they were in my back not my stomach) My midwife was also a friend and she made me go to hospital, although I did wait till the then husband had walked the dog! Anyway 24 hours later I had my daughter. 2nd time around I had contractions good and proper starting at 1am, daughter No2 arrived 8.40am. Just go with what your gut feeling is, you know you best. Good luck

Thanks. I'm sure the "real" intense pain of labour will let me know its the real thing, but the unfamiliar is always scary. Just feel on edge and even though I know I'll probably end up overdue I still thinking OMG it could happen now right this minute. haha!

If you think your water has broke call the OB you need to be checked. Other than that you will know. And as a heads up not all women are lucky and get the water break (or leak), mine actually had to be ruptured the day I had my daughter

I have heard many ladies say you will "just know" but I can't offer any personal experience as this is my first as well. But I can very much relate to the anxiety of it all... :/ hang in there hun. I hope I can just trust my body and what it tells me. I have been pretty intune thus far. Thinking of you.
