Q: signs of labor?

This morning I noticed as I walked around getting dressed I would feel a lot of pressure in my lower stomach. It feels like when the baby tightens up but accompanied with back pain. I noticed again later as I went about my day. It seems to happen whenever I am active. Once i lie down for a while it happens a lot less. I know walking can help start labor. I can't tell if this is an early sign of labor, braxtion hicks or just regular pregnancy discomfort. My mom said her labor began that way so I don't want to assume. I am 29wks and 4 days. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Britanny- I labored for 3 days with my second baby..it wasn't painful(so I thought it was braxton hicks)...Then when Active labor took place...i had my baby within 2hrs. :)
We could all make our guess..but the safest thing to do is head to either your dr.s for a walk in appointment..or go straight to the Hospital. I don't play around with labor starting early..I went in with my first baby at about 3mths..I wasn't really sure if I was in labor or not..It wasn't painful..but, it was just real different then a regular day..Well...I was in active labor indeed and they gave me things to stop the contractions along with steroids for the babies lungs to develop faster. then..I was put on STRICT BED REST for the rest of my pregnancy! BLAH!!..But wouldn't you know..because I listened to my body..she stayed in there tell 38 weeks..born nice and healthy! Dont second guess yourself hun...I would go get checked out. Good Luck!

that sounds like braxton hicks contractions to me, with my other 3 pregnancies they seemed to start around 20 weeks, but everyone is different. as long as its not painful, then its not labor. braxton hicks are just a practice contraction :) and drinking alot of water can help these slow down.

ladies for peace of mind please buy a bump support (it some sort of elasticated belt that goes around the bottom of your bump) i used one with my first pregnancy and it helps with back pain and takes some pressure off, so baby doesn't feel like its so heavy one your pelvis. get lots of rest and good luck (my 1st labour kicked off at 36+5 with waters breaking after two weeks of constant walking and alot of stress (i had a ridiculous urge to walk alot of a night not realising i was moving baby down, could not walk very fast or far from home due to my baby being practically fully engaged, walking at night felt easier and calmer my hips hurt alot when i walked!) good luck girls :)

if i have lay down for a while baby moves to a place where there is most room, but as soon as i stand up everything feels like it slumps heavily low down, thats normal, not a sign of labour. Feeling it in your lower stomach is normal as everything gets heavier, i find myself cradling my bump just to support it. You would feel more pain in pelvis and cervix pain if it was labour, it would be a lot lower than your "stomach". The tightening is braxton hicks, I'm getting a lot of that at the moment.
