I am also planning a homebirth and really you dont need much. My midwife uses a website called precious arrows, and she just uses the basic kit. And she has all of the other "emergency" supplies herself. But she's rarely had to use them. So I'd suggest checking out this website they have all kinds of kits based on your needs and I think you can even customize your own birth kit. Good luck and I'm happy to see that there are others also aiming for a homebirth :)

If you find the right midwife and (doula if you choose to have one) you will not need to buy any equipment they should provide that for you and the things she does not have she would communicate with you...

I'm also hoping for a home birth and am not planning on getting any equipment. This site is pretty helpful: http://www.homebirth.org.uk/list.htm
I think you basically just need an emergency hospital bag and a load of plastic sheets (so your stuff doesn't get ruined). The other stuff - buckets, old towels etc. - you've probably already got at home. I think your midwife should talk you through the stuff you'll need, as well.
Hope this helps :)
