Thank you ladies for the response. My husband is a medic and would be using gloves, he is trained to deliver a baby but not to check the cervix. Thank you for the info.

Hi, I heard like the above person replying that you should never check your cervix in pregnancy due to the same reasons. Also when labouring at home you will just "know" when its time to go in. I dont know if you have had a labour before but your contractions will become so intense that you know its time!. Get your partner to time them and when they are close and regular go!! good luck

Ohh & I forgot to add...they said if you can get the tip of one finger in that its one cm ..2 fingers is 2 cm & I think if you are able to get all 4 in your fully dilated??? Something I found on the net.

Your not suppose to check your cervix for dilation because of the risk of bacteria & the fact that your not a doctor..I got yelled at by my doctor for checking mine last wk lol the bottom was open but he said its the part up inside that your suppose to check for dilation & mine was closed. For some reason I don't believe that though,just didnt sound right..I always though you check the bottom??
