Q: If you had a c-section in a previous pregnancy do you have to have a c-section in later pregnancies?

Im asking this because i was wondering about c-sections because my first born was born by c-section and with this being my second pregnancy i was wondering would that be something that i would have to have again..

All depends on why u needed the section, my first was emergency, there is only 14 mnths between 2 and 3 so I was advised to have a 2nd section, theres 17 months between 2 and 3 so I wasnt even given an option. so i was surprised when they said I could try vaginally with this one, maybe its cos there is a 5 year gap :/ not sure.

My first was breech. I had a c section.
My second was a VBAC.
I am going fir another VBAC with my third.

So to answer your question, you do not have to have c section just because you had one previously.

I had a c-section with my first child and my dr gave me a choice if I wanted to have a scheduled c-section. I think it depends on your dr and reason's for the first c-section and your pregnancy this time if you could have any complications or if you are a high risk pregnancy. I chose to have another c-section, just because I didn't progress with the first one and had a really hard labor. I also have some medical issues with this pregnancy.

It also depends how far apart the pregnancies are because the sooner you get pregnant again the increase risk that contractions could cause problems with the previous incision site!

Depends on your hospital and OB. If the hospital is VBAC (vaginal birth after ceasarean) friendly than most OBs in your area will be.

I had a c-section with my first too and I am going to try to have a VBAC this time. I hope I get my wish.
