Q: Is there a difference between passing your "mucus plug", and "bloody show"?

I passed my mucus plug two days ago. It was mostly clear with a little light pink color. Yesterday evening I started having menstrual like cramping. At 10pm, I had "bloody show". (Looks the same as the mucus plug, except it is tinged with blood). I have been passing more of it today also. I have read some articles that say that it is the same thing. I have read other articles that say that the "bloody show" is due to a rupturing of membranes and that you are dilating and that labor is usually one or two days away. This is my first experience with this. Has anyone experienced either one? Does anyone know if they are the same thing, or if the "bloody show" is a better predictor of labor being closer than just passing the mucus plug? I had strong contractions all night last night, but they never got any closer than 10 minutes. I am cramping still and pretty much miserable at this point. Any input is appreciated!

Our mucous plug is actually continuously regenerating, so towards the end we often start to lose this plug here and there in clumps and chunks as things start to gear up for birth, as our cervix softens and begins to thin you will lose more and more until you hit the point of no return as it were and you lose whatever remains, this last larger clump/chunk is usually the most obvious and most "bloody" because of what is going on with the cervix so really they are the same thing, in that both are part of the mucous plug and both indicate that your cervix is ripening for childbirth :) good luck and happy baby :)

In my experience, with my first pregnancy, they were two different things. I lost my plug at 34 weeks and had a bloody show a week later. Then, at 36 weeks, my water broke but I never went into labor and had to be induced. If I had to guess, your little one is about to make their debut! Congrats! :)
