Q: Baby has severe brain abnormalities has anyone else heard this with their pregnancy?

My baby boy Eli Joseph has severe brain abnormalities. I am 21 weeks pregnant. We have a lot of tests ahead of us and concerns. Has anyone went through this and what was wrong or said? Amniocentesis came back with no abnormalities.

24 weeks, Yesterday morning we gave birth to a 1lb 11 oz baby boy named Eli Joseph Moore. I prayers were answered and he is now in heaven while we patiently wait to see him again some day. He suffered from multiple brain abnormalities and and a few other abnormalities. It may seem hard and difficult and confusing but we know he is better now and that's what is important to us. I am willing to answer questions or help anyone who is having trouble with a loss. Prayers to everyone who have to go through losing a baby or scared if there are complications with baby. God has a plan and we just have to except it and love.

Did they tell you exactly what type of brain abnormalities? If not, I would ask for an explanation. Prenatal MRI should be able to tell you pretty specifically what is going on. Knowing the type of abnormalities can be helpful in determining how severely affected someone will be after birth; on the other hand, other brain abnormalities have a wide range of symptoms from not affected at all to severely affected. If they are bringing up termination, it doesn't necessarily mean that this is a lethal problem or predictive of severe intellectual disability. There are still doctors out there that recommend termination for babies with Down syndrome, which is obviously not innately a lethal condition, people live very happy and productive lives with it and most people have only mild intellectual disability. I'm so sorry that you're going through this and have so little information to anticipate what to expect. I hope for the best possible outcome for you, your child and your family.

Well, girl, I know others may disagree, but I think you are doing the right thing and as I said I'll keep Eli in my prayers. The doctors don't know everything and if your little man is still hanging on then why cut his life short. In regards to the amnio, though, that only shows chromosomal issues so he can still have these other issues they are pointing out with a normal amnio so you can't go by that. At this point you can only wait and see which is very difficult. But, you sound strong and my hat goes off to you. As I said, no matter what God has planned for your little guy, he's a blessing as you know and he's lucky to have you as his momma. Please keep in touch as you get more tests back. Lots of prayers your way.

The only thing that they say they know is he has brain abnormalities, possibly heart and just a huge lust of what they think they have seen. At first ultrasound they told me he had no brain. Second on he has a brain with major problems, then amino came back nothing wrong. So confusing. They have asked to terminate my pregnancy but I refuse, he has already had a miricle he has a brain, I could never cut his life shorter than what god intends for my Eli. We still have a few more test to go through and praying he stays strong and god keeps blessing him. The doctors have no opinions at this point.

If the amnio came back fine then what is their opinion? My first has Down syndrome but not what you are speaking of so I'm guessing they wanted to see if the amnio would show that it's due to a chromosomal issue like Downs or another Trisomy but the test shows it isnt chromosomal. I'm sorry you are going through this. All I can say is see what your doctor's have to say. I know it's not the same thing and it's hard to have a child with special needs if that is your case but my son is one of the best things that ever happened to us. He also has Autism which is toughest but some of God's best blessings come in different packages. I'll keep you in my prayers and keep us updated. Good luck and if you ever want to message me you can. I know what it's like to get news like that. (Hugs)

I have gone through many things with all my pg's. I am definitely not one to go with out something exciting happening, just not that. I am sorry you are having to go through this. What abnormalities did they say he had?
