Q: 38w5d stripping of the membranes... has it worked for anyone?

Went to my 39 week appt this morning and the Dr and I elected to do a membrane sweep. I was also 2cm dilated and she was able to stretch me out to a good 3-4cm.

I was wondering who else had their membranes stripped and did it work for you?

If it doesn't work, she will be inducing me Monday at my 40 week appt. I hope it does because I don't really want an induction.

Sorry. Everyone is different and the sweep isn't the most effective technique and works best after 41 weeks. Just because it worked well for someone doesn't mean it will work well for someone else but you can ask for a couple of sweeps a few days apart if your doctor is willing. Just trying to help...good luck.

I had my sweep done with my last pregnancy. I was 39 weeks and 3 cm. I went into labor that night. Good luck lady!!! I hope it works for you. I am 35 weeks now and counting down the days. :)

I've not had a stripped but I do have SPD plus a giant bruise on my back from falling down some stairs last week. So I can completely understand your pain, hope she doesn't have to induce. GL on getting them stripped and let me know how it works.

I've known a couple of people that have had it performed. Some have gone right into labor & it did the trick. Others it just caused contractions but nothing that encouraged progression, so they ended up needing pitocin. It really depends on how ripe your cervix is, so if you're up to having sex, you may want to try that to encourage a happy cervix before the sweep. Gl to you! I'm 21 weeks with my second, so I understand how hard it is to chase a young child (I have a 2 year old) when you're exhausted & miserable.

I've tried just about everything you can imagine and still nothing. I hate to say it but this qustion wasn't about how to induce labor naturally, its about if anyone had their membranes stripped and how well it worked. I tried it so we wouldn't have to induce labor.

I gotcha. Maybe the primrose oil or cod liver oil or nipple stimulation?

Because I have a severe case of SPD making it near impossible for me to sleep let alone function and I asked to be induced. This isn't my first pregnancy, so when I try to get some rest throughout the day, its hard to keep an eye on my four year old.

Why does she have to induce at 40 weeks? You should be allowed to go up to 42 as long as baby is fine. There are other things you can try before inducing like long walks, sex, primrose oil....Just curious as to why she absolutely won't give you a little more time to go into labor on your own...
