Q: Transverse baby? Anyone else?

The doctor seems to think that baby is in a transverse (horizontal) position. I will be 33 weeks tomorrow, and he was in this position during the 20-weeks ultrasound.

Anyone else had this experience?

I'm wondering if this is why my hips are in so much pain when I have to lie on my sides at night. Do you think baby's position makes the hip pain worse?

Were you able to tell that baby was transverse because of where you felt hiccups, movements, etc?

My OB told me to do lots of rotations and it started working right away, good luck :)

Thanks, everyone. I will have to give the yoga ball a try. I just want some relief :)

I think I'm in the same boat but now 36 weeks. He still seems to be moving back and forth but today I feel large bumps on both hips when he stretches and my sciatic and pubic pain wasn't bothering me nearly as much. I like to worry too much also but am trying to be patient while this little one jumps around in there. :). GL and try not to worry too much as that won't change his/her position.

My daughter was like that and the best thing is a yoga ball, buy one and use it for hip rotations.

My sister's baby girl (born a month ago) was traverse. She was very uncomfortable. Little one ended up shifting to a head down position with the natural contractions once labor started.

Thanks, Eluria88. My doctor told me not to worry, and at 36 weeks if he still hasn't turned, then we'll discuss it further. I didn't ask what that meant but I assume that means she'll try to get him to move by manually turning him. I'm not overly concerned, but I am a bit of a worry wort. Breech actually runs in the family, so maybe that has something to do with him being transverse for now. Glad to know the discomfort and pain could be because of his position. Hoping he turns soon and maybe I'll get at least a little relief in the hip area.

My oldest was transverse 20-36 weeks but right around 37 and a half he turned normally and was born at 38 weeks 2 days. Sometimes babies wait until the last minute to turn, I don't know why your doctor wouldn't tell you that. Mine just said "We'll check him again at 38 weeks" 2 days after the ultrasound confirmed he was in birthing position he made is debut. I wouldn't stress it's still really early, but I do agree it's very uncomfortable and paintful to lay when they're sideways like that.
