Q: Due Dates

Every calculator online I have used including the official NHS one says I'm due 2nd of January 2015 but my midwife is insistent that I'm due 4th of Jan because she used maths...
I know this is not a big difference but what id like to know is why is this different seeing as it's all based on 28day cycle, am I and the calculators wrong or is it my rather annoying midwife?

I would go by your midwife, as that's the one that's determining your care and timing and all that. There's really no way to know your "exact" due date, because it's just an estimate anyway. I use LMP though, and that's what my midwife goes by.

The OB I used with my first child calculated my due date by my first ultrasound. If you went by my LMP I was due 7/4, but u/s put it at 7/6 (which made sense bc I had 31 day cycles). My Dr with baby #2 used LMP even though u/s put me further ahead (that made sense too bc with baby #2 I had 27 day cycles). In the end, a few days makes little difference as so few babies are born on their actual due date.

Maggie I never said it mattered in fact if you actually read you will see I said im not concerned but was wondering if anyone actually knew the math behind the nhs calculations. But thank you for your extremely unhelpful and snotty remark which next time I think you should keep to yourself.

It would depend on what method she's using to calculate it. Usually it's a formula, maybe she has a different one?

My midwife goes by LMP as well. Some of the calculators I've used are a day or so different. But a day or two isn't really going to matter much.

So confusing, as we are moving I get a new midwife so I will ask her when I see her how it's worked out. Mind you they will probably change my dates at the 12wk scan as I know I wasn't on a 28 day cycle again this time :)

I always go from DPO roughly speaking as I have a longer cycle than a 28 day and the NHS refuses to acknowledge that this is the case and everything has to be text book, they are always a good week out where my own calculations are usually just a few days either way. xx

I go by LMP and so does my doctor, so we have been on the same page the whole time. I wouldn't worry too much though. It's only a couple days. In the end, those couple of days probably won't even make a difference.

As long as baby is growing and measuring within 2 weeks of what your gestational age should be, everything is fine. :) Your bub is going to come healthy and beautiful, no matter what Due date you go by. :)
