Q: induce by the oil?

i am 38w preg and at our last ultrasound we were told if i caried to her due date she would be over 8lbs. she has tried to come early several times but they always stopped it due to it being to early. now that she is tech term she is just chilling out. i have only gained 22lbs and am all baby and am ready like any mom to get this over with. with my first i carried her up to 40w and she came on her own i didnt do anything other then walk to encourage her to come but i had gained more weight with her and wasnt as miserable. i wasnt so confined and compact in my body. i have done everything to encourage this baby to come except take anything like castor oil to induce her. i am already dialated to 3cm she is head down and very low, lost my MP and have had contractions but nothing thats staying since they gave me the shot to stop labor last time. what info opinions and thoughts do you ladies have on castor oil, i dont want to do anything to harm her and i only have two weeks left

don't do it! I knew someone who ended up with diarrhea the entire time she was in labor due to taking castor oil. Labor is already hard enough but the thought of nurses having to wipe my butt as I'm pushing out my baby really sounds worse.

Shanny is right. I was told when I was induced at 39w4d that my daughter was going to be 9 pounds. 24 hours later I was holding a beautiful 6 pound 4 ounce sweet baby girl. As for caster oil, not a good idea. It can cause the baby to have it's first bowel movement (meconium) inside before delivery. If baby inhales meconium it can cause respiratory issues.

Caster oil is not a good option in my eyes although some women swear by it. It works on the assumption that a bowl movement/diarrhoea before labour is what brings on the big day.
Caster oil is most likely to give you an upset stomach and diarrhoea but not bring on contractions leaving you even more uncomfortable and miserable.
I was only 1cm when I went into labour so you already have a good start and don't let weight estimates scare you as many women here will tell you that they were predicted big babies but had snaller babies, besides they say 8lbs is easier to push out because the muscles can work more effectively.
Hope this helps but walking and time really is the best way, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will happen for you soon x
