Q: 10 Wks 3 days pregnant and lost 3 lbs?

I'm currently 10 wks 3 days pregnant and i am losing weight not gaining like you should some ppl say as long as baby is growing ok then i shouldn't worry that i would most likely play catch up 2nd or 3rd trimester i haven't seen the baby via ultrasound since 7 wks 5 days I'm not due for another scan until I'm 13 wks so I'm worried maybe the baby isn't growing like he/she should. I've been listening to the heartbeat for the past wk on my fetal Doppler and the heart rate is normal so i know i haven't miscarried but I'm concerned about not gaining any weight. anyone else had this problem?

I lost weight the first trimester too. Your metabolism goes up when you are pregnant, and I'm not drinking a beer after work or going out on weekends and eating badly so I naturally dropped 5 lbs the first couple of months. A little bit of morning sickness contributed too, as I wasn't as hungry. Now I'm 20 weeks and ravenous and up 7 lbs. So you'll catch up. As long as you're healthy, your baby will grow and you ARE gaining blood, mass, fluid, etc. You just might be metabolizing some extra fat of your own because your eating habits are changing.

I'm in the same boat. During the first 13 weeks I was actually down 7 lbs due to morning sickness. Now at 25w I am still only up 1.2 lbs from my starting weight. I asked my midwife last week and she said that my baby girl is growing right on track so that I shouldn't worry. She also said that not everyone gains a lot of weight during their pregnancies and that I'll likely start gaining more in the coming weeks or as I enter my third trimester.

I've been focusing on eating well, making sure that I'm getting enough nutrients and minerals, etc. My midwife is not concerned that I'm not really gaining weight. If you're worried you should ask your doctor at your next appointment (I've brought it up every appointment and have always been told not to worry).

Good luck!

Slight weight loss in early pregnancy is okay according to what I read and experienced. It is even to be expected if you have morning sickness. Between 6 weeks and 8 weeks, I lost about 3 kg. I didn't worry as I knew m/s caused it and by 11 weeks, I was back to my usual weight. 16 weeks+ now and I have suddenly gained 2-3 kg within 2 weeks despite still eating normal. So basically, weight fluctuation is normal as long as baby remains healthy which I am sure yours is. Good luck hun
