Q: No Progress and No BH at 36.5 weeks

I'm 36w4d today. I haven't had one Braxton Hicks contraction this whole pregnancy (as far as I can tell). Yesterday, at my Ob check up, I had my first cervical check and I was a whopping 0cm dilated. This didn't surprise me, but it did make me wonder -- do a lack of BH/early dilation mean anything in terms of potentially delivering late? Am I doomed to have this baby induced at 42 weeks??

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one without BH!

I didn't get BH either, I was induced on my due date for personal reasons, my waters broke and the midwife did a stretch, he was born 7 hours later.

Thank you both, very helpful! Yes, this will be my first. I'm trying not to get too invested in my due date, and I'm surprisingly comfortable (maybe that's a sign!) so I'm not in a rush to go early. It's just the mystery of the "when" that is getting to me :)

I have heard of women being dilated and going weeks longer, even needing to be induced. I have tried to find the same thing but everything I have read says that dilation and effacement mean nothing as for when labor will happen. It does mean progress but that is it. With my first I wasn't dilated at all until I actually went into labor and finally had him 10 days after his due date. I don't remember having Braxton hicks with him at all and I'm not sure I am even having them now! I have also heard that effacing is more important than dilating when it means labor is near. With that being said anything can happen and it can happen very quickly, and you still have 3 1/2 weeks until your EDD. I know how the waiting game feels :/ Good luck to you!

I can't tell from your profile if you've had previous children or not but if this is your first child that might explain why you haven't had any symptoms of pre-labor yet. Everybody's bodies do different things, by this time next week you could be having BH contrax or real ones or lose your musuc plug or your waters break or ten other different things. Everyone is different, so I wouldn't worry about it, they'll come soon! :)
