Q: early ultrasound showed no sac, baby or heartbeat

I had very light spotting Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Monday morning I had a trans vaginal ultrasound that showed fluid but nothing else. I was 6 weeks 2 days then. Because it was inconclusive, my OB did a serial HCG. It went from 42,897 on Monday to 58,964 on Wednesday. It's increasing but not doubling. They think I'm probably miscarrying. I will have another ultrasound next Tuesday. I can tell the Dr. thiks it will confirm bad news. I'm so worried and heartbroken. Just wondered if this happened to anyone else and what your experiences were? I feel like I can't make it through a day.

Could it be your dates are off? I went in for an ultrasound at 5 weeks and there was nothing at all I was so worried but went back 11 days later and there was a baby with heart beat now I'm 25 weeks. I would say that because hcg isn't decreasing I would try remain hopeful. Good luck x

If your HCG is that high, you should have seen something. A sac is formed around 1500 HCG. It could possibly be ectopic. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Maybe nor is right and the baby was hiding. Hopefully that is the case.

Usually when your hcg gets that high it doubles every 4 days, give or take. At least you have nice high numbers and they aren't decreasing. Don't give up til it goes down! I hope the baby was just hiding! I have heard of this happening with women who have tilted uteruses, the baby couldn't be seen early on because the uterus was tilted towards the back.

Once it gets that high it doesn't usually double in 2 days anymore. Your HCG level sounds perfect actually. It is a little worrisome thought that they didn't see anything. I will keep my fingers crossed that they see a little bean and a little heartbeat at your next ultrasound!
