Q: Don't know whether to have an elective c section

Hi, I had to have an emergency c section when I had my daughter and have been told I can have an elective c section with my second but I don't know what to. I feel like I should try a natural birth but my head keeps telling me to go with c section as the labour last time was terrible and I was hooked up to heart machines.

Has anyone had an elective c section and can giveme some tips on how to decide whats best? I'm probably overthinking it all. Just don't want this labour to work out like the last one.

had emcs with 1st, was induced at 36 weeks, 14 hours in, his heart rate dropped so many times his heart even stopped a few times, contractions were intense, contracting every 28 seconds. and had still only got to 2cm.
my 2nd was a planned section, it is so much more relaxed, first time round they were getting blood ready for a trainsfusion, with the planned I lost just over 200mls of blood, which they were pretty surprised about seeing though how much I lost the first time. with the planned they had music playing in the background, one of the nurses took photos for us. we even had a good laugh. my blood pressure did drop quite a bit, 46/64 but that's pretty normal for it to drop after surgery. I was out with baby the next day.

I would never have a c-section unless medically necessary over a virginal birth. If you have a choice, it's no choice. Major surgery with a much longer recovery time. Some woman have to have a c-section and they don't have a choice. But when you do have a choice it's no choice. Easy decision. Gl

There are positives and negatives to cesarean deliveries as well as vaginal deliveries. I personally know how much it sucks to have a c-section (and to recover from one). However, I think I would rather deal with c-section recovery than a fourth degree laceration (tears through your rectum creating one large whole instead of two). Also, most physicians will not induce someone attempting to VBAC or even augment labor with medication if you are not progressing well. Another thing to consider is going through hours of painful labor just to end up with another cesarean- as you already know that is no joy.

Just things to consider.

I had emergency section with my first at 34 weeks. I had a planned section for my second and it was amazing! Went in, no pain, and I got to hold my baby the minute after she was born and she stayed on my chest while the doctor stitched me up and during recovery. She never left my chest. I was so simple and if I have anymore, I will have another planned section. I recovered faster with my second as well.

With my 3rd baby I had a c-section since my boy was breech. After that I had 2 vbacs was planning a vbac again with this baby, but he was breech too & ended up having another c-section on March 1st. I would have a vbac any day over a c-section.

I had an emergency c sec with my first because my punkins heart rate had dropped to 30's. I had been in labor for about 18 hrs and had a very sick baby after. I had planned a c sec with my second and a week before the surgery I went into labor. I progressed from a 2 to a 10 in thirty minutes, pushed for 2 1/2 hrs and had my second baby with only a tear. It was MUCH better than the c sec, the pain was no where near as bad, recovery was much easier and it was an all around better experience. With this one I can choose either and I will be trying for a second vbac. Good luck and I hope this helped :)
