Q: Natural Birth?!

I am a first time mommy and I have been doing research (maybe a bit too much) and I am trying to decide whether or not to have a natural delivery or not. I am thinking about hiring a doula to be at the hospital with me and so on, I'm just nervous because with my first pregnancy I don't know what to expect pain wise. My main priority is doing what is the safest method for the baby. I have been watching Pregnant in America and Business of Being Born and they startled me a little bit, so that is what got me researching all the medical side to delivery. Any one have any stories, suggestions, etc.?!

The best thng to do is to expect the unexpected. Make decisions as you go that is the safest for baby and works best for you at that moment..then, change your mind later if you can or need to....Im a complete control freak and i just went with the flow because my labor was not anything likepeople imagine...i went through a lot,but it was fine because i didnt go in with any plans or expectations.

Labour is unpredictable, so even if you plan to the very last detail things may have to change on the day.... but please do not watch dramatic reality shows on birth, I do the same. They obviously choose thee most extreme cases otherwise it would be quite boring to watch a women breeze through it as most do! I was at the birth of my nephew and my sister was amazing. She did it all with gas and air and hardly made a sound, she just concentrated and powered through. If you stay in control and don't freak out and let your body do what it needs there is no need for it to be scary. Good Luck

Every labour is different and even if you do plan on having a natural birth without intervention it may or may not happen. It's one of those things In life that are unpredictable until you actually get there, complications may arise where you may need an intervention or the pain may just become unbearable. It's good to have a birth plan and to search out different methods but my advice would be to just keep an open mind when it comes to labour and delivery just in case.
