Q: Blood results flagged for 2nd trimester maternal serum screening

Hello. Has anyone else had a nuchal translucency test
together with their first-trimester blood test returned with negative results for Down Syndrome & Trisomy 18 then have the blood results of your 2nd trimester maternal serum screening flagged?

My midwife telephoned to say that my results are slightly over the normal range and with my upcoming ultrasound this Saturday at 19 weeks together should give her a better idea of what is going on, if anything. I am hoping someone has had the same situation and can provide comfort for me. Thank you.

Thank you ericalee for taking the time to reply. The 2nd ultrasound looked to be all positive/healthy however I will be seeing a Genetics Counsellor this Friday just to get another look at the placenta as a precaution to ensure that everything is indeed in the normal range. My midwife had explained that the Quad screening tends to have a high false-positive ratio. I was not getting worked up about anything however you cannot help but think of all the things that can be wrong.

Did you have your baby already or is she still in utero? Thank you once again!

what screening test was it? Was it the Quad screen? Mine came back "positive" for an increased odds for Down Syndrome with my daughter. The ultrasound will definitely help to identify if there are any soft or hard markers for any issues. Unfortunately, tests like the quad screen are really just about odds... not diagnostic at all. We talked to a genetic counselor who told me that my body just produces different levels of the hormones than "the curve"
