External Fetal Monitoring, I am assuming thats where they wrap straps around your belly and monitor the babys heart beat, contractions, and movement.
If that is the same then yes, I am 39 weeks and I been having that done for the past 2-3 weeks. I lay there for about 20 minutes and theres a button I have to press everytime I feel the baby move.
I dont have gestational diabetes though, it may be normal procedure. or Maybe since you have gestational diabetes they are starting it earlier than usual?

I'm sorry, but I don't have personal experience. All I know is that diabetes does carry a serious risk to the baby. There is even risk of the baby dying. Therefore, you really do need to follow your doctor's advice and do whatever you can to manage and monitor your diabetes - and baby. There's a guide here that may be helpful, but it probably won't show up as a live link, so you'll need to cut and paste it. Being induced does sound like a sensible precaution. And, once baby is born, you should no longer have diabetes, which I'm sure will be a relief! I know it all sounds a bit scary, but sounds like you are being well looked after. https://www.diabetes.org.uk/Documents/gestational-diabetes/0302A-gestational-diabetes-guide-0915.pdf
