Plan Going Forward!

Well, I went to my OB for my 19 week appointment last week and she is recommending we go ahead and just plan on a partial hysterectomy. She said after discussing my scan results with the maternal fetal med doc, that they don't believe it to be worse than an accreta but she thinks with my age and how many C-sections I've already had... a partial hysterectomy is the best option. This way, I won't need my tubes tied, either (which we were planning on doing). She said she will leave the ovaries, fallopian tubes and possibly the cervix, so I will not have to endure menopause at the same time, that will still happen on its own time. She said she'll make the incision above my belly button and instead of attempting to remove the placenta, she'll just take the uterus instead. Surgery will be about the same time as a C-section and I'll be in my post partum room around the same amount of time and I'll be able to nurse Avery, too.

Being that I am 42 years old - I am becoming OK with this. I cried at 1st, after I left the doctor office, but in all honesty - it won't make me less of a woman and a bonus will be that I'll never have a period again! I have 4 healthy boys at home and this beautiful baby girl on the way. If this surgery saves my life, that's a win for me! My doc did tell me that if we tried a normal C-section, I could end up in the ICU needing several units of blood (she said 15-18) and on life support. I'll take the safe option... I am done having children. It is still a lot to take in, but I am learning it's OK and it is the best option for me and my family.

Wow, that is a lot to take in, wishing you the best! I’m not looking forward to “life after fertility.” You’ve got a great attitude about. Congrats on your upcoming little girl xo
