Baby Shower Success!
By Amanda_McDaniel » Posted Jan. 24, 2016 11:40am - 316 views - 6 comments

Yesterday afternoon was my last ever baby shower and, despite any reservations I might have had about letting someone else plan it, my sister-in-law and mother-in-law, with some help from my mom, did a fantastic job! It was a smaller gathering, only fifteen or so folks, but that was perfect! The decorations were wonderful (I brought a fair few of them home to use in the nursery), there was plenty of food, including an amazing cake, and I loved having a happy, mostly stress-free day. As I predicted, it was a ‘rain shower’ theme and I’ll never forget it. I’ll upload pictures as I add JEs. Speaking of photos, I knew my belly was big but damn! Looking back at the pictures from my first shower, I am already the size I was at 39 weeks. It’s unbelievable, right? And knowing that we’re going to continue to grow for the next five weeks absolutely blows my mind! No one seems to think I’ll make it to March but that’s pretty much just a jinx that will mean I’m overdue when she finally does show. But we got quite a few adorable things that I look forward to using but I’m most excited about getting the mobile, diaper bag and crib sheets I registered for. I’ll be spending a lot more time setting up the nursery since I’ve pretty much organized my house as much as I can. About two hours of dusting, vacuuming, laundry and dishes each days and I’m out of things to do. Leaving the house has lost a lot of its appeal so I have to find something to occupy my time. Haha!

I have yet another appointment on the 27th, the start of my weekly visits, but I don’t think they’ll do much again. Maybe she can tell me if I’m making any progress on flipping Princess Caroline around. I don’t believe I have but she does feel transverse (sideways?) so maybe that’s a step in the right direction. When do they start checking the cervix? Is it 36 weeks? I don’t think there’s any change yet but I would like time to mentally prepare. Hah! DeWayne and I have officially started trying to bring on a timely labor with sex. Fortunately, it wasn’t painfully uncomfortable like the last time we tried but it hasn’t even left me cramping today. We’ll try twice this coming week since I’ll be 35 weeks while I keep trying to get Princess to flip. Maybe she’ll be ready to join us at least the week she’s due. Mostly, I feel all right. Though I don’t like it, I’m getting accustomed to the breathlessness, difficulty sleeping, and infrequent aches and pains. I imagine, by the time she’s ready to come, I’ll be just about living in constant misery, right? I’m really out of my element now. Since Sebastian never dropped, my body never initiated the process of delivering. I never waddled, my pelvis never hurt because there was never any pressure on it, I didn’t get this damnable lightning crotch, and, beyond the struggle to breathe when lying down, I never had a problem sleeping. It’s totally different this go-around but it gives me hope for a successful VBAC if I just give myself time. That’s all I really need to endure this, just a bit of hope.

Today's photo is of a 'cloud' balloon that my sister-in-law added raindrops to, with a diaper cake she made herself, a few signs for the nursery she got, on the gift table with a matte frame around my shower invite for every to sign to hang in the nursery also. All in my colors of gray, coral and white. Fun, right??

I'm so glad it went well, what adorable decorations! Try not to stress about the next few weeks, they will be gone before you know it, I've been amazed at how much faster the agonizing end of pregnancy has gone the second time around. Fingers crossed baby is at least on her way to flipping for you!

Glad you had a great time at your baby shower! Those decorations are so cute! I'm definitely looking forward to you uploading more pictures from your shower! :) Hopefully the exercises you're doing to get Caroline to flip are working!

That is a very cute theme! Love the little rain cloud. Glad everything went well for you. I used shower decor in my baby room as well. Reading your JE makes me thankful to have my little sweetie here. I don't miss the uncomfortable sleepless nights. I still don't get much sleep, but at least I can breathe and get comfortable!!
