So, I'm one of those headcases that needs to know actual numbers and not just general risk factors for me and my baby. With all the scary warnings out there, I want to know how many, who, what trends, the actual odds, correlating data vs cause and affect, etc.
For any one else out there who is like me, A CDC report can be read here. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr64/nvsr64_09.pdf
I feel a bit better after reading this because, the risk, while real, is actually very low. My age, lifestyle, and family history make it even lower. And if a baby is not a preemie or severely underweight, or has a brain damage, chances of this happening are really very, very small. Although some web sites claim SIDS is the leading cause of infant death, according to the CDC, it's not. #1 is severe congenital defects. #2 is very early or very low birth weight. Stuff I'd see coming ahead of time, and could fight against. Now I can stop being afraid of this and worry about other things. Haha.
