When i got my epi for my son I was honestly surprised how little it hurt. it hurt much less than the actual IV in my hand! There was a tiny poke, that's all. You may feel some weird coldness going down your back from the drugs going in, and then blessed numbness LOL. The worst part of it was afterward when they yanked the tape patch off my back that had been holding it in place, and that was just a quick ouch. Additionally, you can't see what is happening on your back while it's going in, that makes it better imo. Honestly try not to watch the baby shows, They are showing things that you would not necessarily see during your delivery, like close ups of the c-section and all that. Just remember at the end of it you will have your baby in your arms and won't care a whole lot about the rest.

I watch these reality birthing shows too, and they are so dramatised for our "entertainment"

If you are in labour the pain of that will out weigh the "pain" of an epidural...and if you end up having a cesarean you won't feel or see anything.

Please don't panic, the experience and your feelings and choices will be completely different when you are in the "moment" of giving birth. Just keep your eyes on the amazing prize you get afterwards :)

Every hospital and birthing center is different..some make you wait, while others dont. Let me just say, when I go in labor..the only thing I think about the second I have regular contractions..is "GET ME TO THE HOSPITAL...NOW!" I give birth quick..so any other thoughts I may have had prior..go right out the window..SERIOUSLY. :) The joy of meeting this person you have been poked by ..consumes all other thinking. :)

Yeah thats true, im soo soo scared tho about the pain and dont you have to wait till your so many centimetres dialated before they give u the epidural? Only thing that makes me happy is the feeling of having to hold him it will be such a amazing experience.

These women are so right. When the contractions begin and your are in full blown labor...you are so focused on the laboring part.....that youre not thinking about anything other then your body and that baby! It is scary if you let it be.......watch birthing stories on TLC...those ones are a bit more censored and you still see the before during and after of child birthing...I actually find myself watching them the whole pregnancy...I cry every show..lol. Good Luck

Once the pushing starts you dont think about anything but getting to that baby lol. Most amazing feeling in the world. My opinion it doesnt even hurt when pushing. The OB nurses gave me alow dose of the epi so I could still feel everythingthat way i knew when to push

I Was nervous about getting the Epi with my first. I didnt feel any of my labor for the first 22 out of 28 hrs of the labor. Apparently my daughter moved the bag of water and blocked a pain censor. But as soon as the bag of water popped and they were giving me the pitocin, I was begging for it. This time Im going to get it as early as I can. I actually have a pretty high pain tolerance. I didnt feel any of the needles because I was so focused on the contraction pain.
