Q: Big baby or sooner due date??

At my last drs appt back at 19w4d, the ultrasound tech said my baby was measuring bigger. I looked at the screen & it said my baby was measuring at 20w4d. One whole week difference. I then asked my doctor if that changes my due date from Jan,25 to Jan,19. She didn't give me a straight answer! Ughh! All she said was that my baby "can come on time or sooner but he's just a lil big." What??? Does 1 week really matter? Or is my baby the right amount of weeks & just hefty? I'm so confused.

At my due date scan at 16w2d I was showing on time and then at my 19w2d ultrasound I was showing a week behind. The ultrasound technician said it's completely normal to be showing about two weeks behind or two weeks ahead. The baby can go on a grow a lot one week and not so much the following but it evens out over the corse of time. My due date was still the same and I had my baby girl 2 days before.

One week makes a huge difference in terms of development! In addition, size doesn't equate to being full term. My daughter was born at 36 weeks, weighed in at the 90th percentile but still had late preemie complications. She started measuring large at the 20 week ultrasound as well. Go by your original scan and due date. I'm pregnant with my second - at 12 weeks she is already measuring large - and they said they wouldn't change my original due date.

What Luckymomma said. Babies grow at different rates and while the ultrasounds are more accurate, they are not perfect. Baby will come when baby is ready! Your due date isn't a hard and fast date, it's just a general idea and you may find yourself in labor a few days before or over a week after. That's why when people ask me when baby is due I just say "around New Year's" or "early January". That way no one is calling me on the actual due date asking if he's here yet (hopefully).

If you had a dating scan at the start of your pregnancy then ultrasounds afterwards don't really change your due date, babies grow at different rates but from what I was told was your due date doesn't change after the dating scan.
