Q: Positive review of Zoloft - Post Pardum isn't the only depression.

A month or so ago I realized I had issues in this pregnancy. I was having thoughts not normal at all to me and felt depressed far too often. I've been on 50mgs of Zoloft for a month now and ladies, it's great. Just wanted to throw this out there, that just because you're dealing with your issues, maybe some tears, some down feelings, doesn't mean you have to. I didn't realize how much the depression was bothering me even until it went away. I'm not high as a kite, but I can function from day to day without being overwhelmed every step of the way. If you're going through stuff, you aren't alone! Depression occurs during pregnancy too, not just after!

I've been on 150mg of Zoloft and had no complications. However it's still one of those things experts can't fully gauge as (obviously) it's not something they can test on pregnant women and fetus.
150mg is the absolute highest that should be prescribed for pregnant woman, and from what I've been told the most common complication with zoloft and other anti-depressants is a hole in the heart, but it's a low risk.
I wouldn't recommend taking anti depressants through pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. It's up to the GP to decide whether the woman and unborn child have more of a risk being on it or off it.

Antidepressants and pregnancy still have a lot of questions left unanswered so I am choosing to be as careful as possibe, while remaining as healthy as I can be. From what I've been able to research and learn from my doc is that these meds should be taken during pregnancy if you are not mentally going to be capable to function without them. I am on citalopram and I take 10mg/day. I am not currently pregnancy but will be TTC soon so I am planning to go off of them before I start trying. My doc warns against it, but I know I will eat well and still go to my doc appointments and will take care of myself because that's what I did with my first. 50mg seems a bit high though. Do you think you could slowly drop back to a lesser dose?
