Q: Just curious... How long did it take for you to go in to labor?

Today I had my 38 weeks check up and she told me the baby was heads down and that I was already at 3 cm.... This I my second child with my first I was only at 1 cm around 38 weeks and I was like that till I got induced so I am not sure if I am going to go in to labor some time soon or if it could still be a while... I am hopeing it doesn't happen anytime soon since I don't feel like the baby is ready but I know they will come when they want to...

Well, everyone is different. Some women can be dilated for a long time before labor. At my 39 week check up with my second I was 2.5 cm and 70% effaced. I went into labor 3 days later and had her 5 days after the appointment. With my first I wasn't dilated or effaced at 40 weeks and ended up going 10 days past my due date and had a 4 day labor. So, in my case I have a tendency to have long stretches of prodromal labor for a bit before active labor, but the more progress beforehand, the quicker labor actually went. I have read that effacement is a little more predictive than dilation, especially in subsequent pregnancies.
